What Makes Cobra Kai Such a Great Watch?

If you have heard that line, then congratulations you have good taste in movies and TV shows. Many of us grew up watching the Karate Kid movies, right? (The ones with Ralph Macchio and not the Jaden Smith reboot). Imagine the excitement I experienced when the first season of Cobra Kai dropped!

What caused all the excitement? You may inquire.

Here, I’ll tell you some of the main reasons why Cobra Kai is such a great show to watch! Without further ado, let’s find out!

It Brings Back Familiar Faces

One of the main reasons why I watched Cobra Kai in the first place was because it brought back two characters from the 80s movies, Daniel LaRusso (played by Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (played by William Zabka). Though I wasn’t born in the 80s, I thoroughly enjoyed all three of the Karate Kid movies.

The first season of the show brought back both the characters, obviously as grown-ups, but they still share that same sense of rivalry as they did all those years ago. The only difference is that Daniel is now a successful car dealership owner and Johnny just struggles to survive.

The Next Generation of Karate

Another thing that I loved about the show is that it introduced us to the next generation. Daniel went on to marry and have two kids, while Johnny had one son, and all three of them were eventually introduced to the idea of Karate. So, it’s like passing on the baton from one generation to the next.

The best part is that watching the next generation fight is just as exhilarating as it was watching the Karate Kid movies. It was a great addition to the characters, and I loved how they chose to continue the rivalry between Johnny and Daniel through their kids. As I mentioned earlier, the upcoming second part of season 6 is going to be the last one, which means that you better start binging all the previous seasons now! Considering how you will need a lot of data, I will advise that you prepare for your binging sessions by looking into Spectrum Internet packages. The unlimited data and bundle discounts make it the ideal choice for anyone.

It’s Packed with Action

There’s never a dull moment while you’re watching the show. The action picks up right from the first episode when Johnny beats up a couple of high schoolers when they are picking on a kid. Honestly, his actions were a little justified because he was protecting another kid.

However, as the story progresses, so does the action. So if you are a fan of action movies and martial arts, then you will definitely love this show! Another great thing about the show is that despite being in their 50s, both Ralph Machhio and William Zabka have still got the karate spark!

It Has an Engaging Story

If you fancy the movies from the 80s, then you’re going to love the story. Even though both Johnny and Daniel move on with their lives, they find themselves entangled in their rivalry once again. However, this time, their kids are involved as well, as I mentioned earlier.

I can’t give you any spoilers but Johnny and Daniel’s rivalry also buds into a wholesome kind of bond, and you are going to have to watch the show to find out how! So if you want to see how the story unfolds, then you better get started with watching the show now before the second (and last) part of season 6 drops!

There Is Intense Character Development

The main character of the show is Miguel Diaz, who starts as a nerdy kid who is easily bullied and eventually turns into a complete karate badass! You might remember how in Karate Kid 3 Daniel joins Cobra Kai and becomes a vengeful and aggressive kid as he starts forgetting all of Mr. Miyagi’s (his own mentor) teaching that karate is about self-defense only.

The same happens with Miguel too. As he trains under Johnny for the first couple of seasons, he turns into a bully. That is because Johnny passes on the teachings of the old Cobra Kai to him which states that “Strike first, strike hard, no mercy,” which was taught to Johnny by his mentor, John Kreese. However, with time Johnny realizes that his teachings weren’t orthodox but until then Miguel had turned into a complete bully. With time, Miguel becomes a better person and a fighter and he eventually redeems himself! Hooray for everyone!

A Bonus Tip

To make better sense of the show, the story, and all the recurring characters, you must watch all three parts of The Karate Kid. This includes The Karate Kid, The Karate Kid II, and The Karate Kid III. It isn’t necessary for you to watch The Next Karate Kid since it had a different character who wasn’t introduced in the show. You won’t have to watch the Jackie Chan reboot either but if you want to prepare yourself for the upcoming Karate Kid: Legends movie releasing in 2025, then you should watch the reboot since it will star Ralph Macchio alongside Jackie Chan!
